Introduction

When it comes to durable industrial labels it is important all components are suitable for the end use and required duration with the key focus on safety and disposal of products etc. For instance, in our previous article we focused on the importance of BS5609 compliance for pressure sensitive labels for marine use. In this article we will focus on the overall importance of industrial labels and why choosing the correct material construction is crucial across a host of areas. So firstly, let’s take a look at what industrial labels are.

What are durable industrial labels?

Industrial labels are typically defined as labels which are required to withstand a range of conditions and extremes of climates, including oil, water, chemical or grease resistance, high or low temperatures abrasion or scuffing through handling/prolonged exposure.

What Industries are Durable Labels Used In?

Industrial labels are essential for communicating important instructions, product details or safety instructions to customers etc. The industries which rely on these types of labels include:

  • Automotive – this industry is notorious for requiring durable labels on parts of vehicles to outline safety instructions, risks and more and these can be found on the exterior & also under the hood.
  • Aerospace – these play pivotal roles for both aerospace manufacturing and customer assistance. The labels for this industry need to withstand varying temperatures & must be resistant to fuel, oil and more.
  • Health & safety – this is key in various industries to keep customer, staff and visitors safe from any risks. Health and safety durable labels must remain in place with varying temperatures, not react to solvents, be durable and long-lasting.
  • Pharmaceutical / medical – this industry requires durable labels which do not fade through wear and tear and can be used for both interior and exterior applications. The range of adhesives required for this industry differ based on the end application.

Importance of Durable Industrial Labels:

  • Quality control – this facilitates compliance through a manufacturer label which allows for the safe identification of products, including original manufacturer, purpose of product, properties of chemicals included etc. This enables product control and reduces/avoids risks with any contamination, unsafe practices.
  • Safe product disposal / usage etc. – labels on dangerous or hazardous substances must contain labels which comply to industry standards this is where the BS5609 compliance is required. For example, if these are going on chemical drums etc., they must be able to withstand the harsh marine environments they are exposed to.
  • Customer satisfaction – industrial and durable labels must put customers first from both a safety and customer satisfaction perspective as this includes any safety precautions to keep consumers & others safe.
