Our History
1849 - Founded in Scotland by Richard Smith & Peter McLaurin
1966 - We were the World's largest manufacturer of record labels
1971 - Our hand-made gummed paper went to moon as it was was used as signage inside the Apollo space craft
1990 - We were the self-adhesive label stock supplier for British Rail & British Airways
2007 - We were the first manufacturer of self-adhesive labelstock to gain dual FSC & PEFC Chain of Custody certification
2009 - We developed a digital range for HP webstream presses
2012 - We introduced our range of water base Inkjet materials
2020 - First manufacturer of self adhesive labelstock in Europe to gain approval from Returpack and Infinitum for Purity Wash range of adhesives
2021 - Launching our range of sustainability products, namely ecoPack & PurityWash

Allan McLaughlin Chairman
Allan has been the Chairman of Smith & McLaurin since 2009, having originally joined the Board in 2005. He led a management buy-out of the company in 2013 and is responsible for the strategic direction of the business.

Pat Kennedy Managing Director
Pat joined Smith & McLaurin in 2018 and was promoted to Managing Director in 2021. Pat brings extensive operational and technical knowledge to the business, having worked in several diverse industries throughout his career.

John Radford Sales Director
John oversees our UK & European Sales Teams and Agents. He has over 25 years experience of working in the self-adhesive market.

David Hollas Director - Supply Chain & Commercial
With over 20 years experience in Operations and Supply Chain Management in a number of sectors, David heads our Materials Purchasing and Planning department. He is also in charge of the logistics and warehousing facilities, in the UK and overseas.
