Andrew Mackay completes six week internship at Smith & McLaurin Ltd
Continuing our strong relationship with Strathclyde University we were extremely pleased to have Andrew Mackay working with us on a six week placement over the summer. In his own words:
“At the beginning of placement in Smith and McLaurin, I looked at the company slogan “Positively Different” and wondered what I’d let myself in for. 6 weeks on, it’s clear it couldn’t better describe SMCL. Every member of staff made my stay very enjoyable and I hope that applying two years of university taught theory to real-life commercial projects will further my understanding for my upcoming third year and beyond. Gaining an understanding of how crucial purchasing is for the business has also opened my eyes to the less obvious sides of business life, and I now realise that I greatly under-estimated the work and commitment every member of the SMCL workforce has to undertake to ensure the continued success of the company and help it grow from strength to strength. Overall, it was a thoroughly enjoyable experience, which will go a long way to help me gaining the best university degree possible"
Andrew's work on a variety of projects including developing a commercial business plan; a press cutting system; and finally a sales analysis tool, have already been implemented within the company and are showing positive results. We wish him all the best in his future plans.
